The Tahoe Expo is a geotourism showcase that will guide you to more fun connecting to adventures (not obvious from the surface) so you feel a deeper richer, connection to the water, land, wildlife and air we share here in the Tahoe watershed.
The Tahoe Expo presented by Sustainable Tahoe is scheduled for the weekend of September 8th-9th, 2012. The event brings visitors to the seldom-seen natural and historical worlds of the Lake Tahoe basin while demonstrating a new standard in sustainable tourism and highlighting local businesses that have collaborated to make that vision a reality.
While you’ve likely heard about the skiing, the kayaking, or the hiking here, it’s less likely you’ve had the chance to take a hike guided by a local naturalist among black bears, see Lake Tahoe from 200 feet below the surface, learn about Tahoe’s secret mafia history, or run among the wild mustangs that roam the country outside of Reno. It’s even less likely you’ve thought about doing any of this while significantly reducing your carbon footprint – using public transportation, water taxis, and by eating local foods.
The Tahoe Expo gives you the opportunity to do all of this in a way that is fun, educational, and sustainable. By showcasing sustainable local businesses and organizations that will work together to promote a new geotourism model for Lake Tahoe, the Expo gives visitors – be they families, outdoor enthusiasts, or simply those with a curiosity about the natural world – a chance to see a side of Lake Tahoe they may never have known existed. As well, the Expo connects these activities through the extensive use of public transportation, utilizing Tahoe’s existing bus system and more inventive transportation like water taxis.
This year you will choose from 8 to 12 guided and diverse adventure tracks or crawls throughout the Tahoe watershed. Choose a track and reserve it in advance with a nominal donation. All Tracks and Crawls will be sponsored to cover the cost. Your reservation fee will ensure your seat and include any transit and lunch costs, so one donation will get you in.
