Christmas Valley
The Christmas Valley neighborhood is perfect for the Tahoe adventurer. The neighborhood is a valley bordered by tall mountains, Echo Summit and Luther Pass and the Upper Truckee River runs through the heart of the valley. If you love to ski, fish, hike and bike this is the place to live and play. There are wide open meadows, fantastic bouldering, and for the brave (or foolish) you can ski down Echo Summit to the base of the valley. Christmas Valley is the gateway to Luther Pass, Hope Valley, Blue Lakes adventure area and endless miles of trails for skiing, snowmobiling, mountain biking, world class fly fishing and so much more. The favorite ski areas for Christmas Valley locals are Kirkwood and Sierra At Tahoe.
Christmas Valley is loosely divided into three areas. There is a long stretch of homes along South Upper Truckee Road running from Highway 50 to the base of Luther Pass. Old Meyers Grade is the locals work out spot, many runners and walkers can be spotted walking the grade every day. There are also several clusters of Forest Service cabins located along South Upper Truckee, the Rainbow Tract, Bridge Tract and South Upper Truckee summer cabins. These cabins are located on USFS land, but are individually owned cabins.
On the other side of the river the neighborhoods are concentrated around Blitzen Road, Santa Claus and Elf, notice the Christmas Theme continuing. Many homes here back to the river or the open meadow and woodsy forest.
Homes range from small class Tahoe chalets to beautiful mountain styles contemporaries; some even include a swimming pool. As in most South Lake Tahoe neighborhoods there is a mix of permanent residents, vacation home owners and a sprinkling of vacation rental homes. There is one condo complex located toward the end of the valley, at the base of Luther Pass. The Christmas Valley condo complex is a small cluster of 2-3 bedroom condos with garages, a feature greatly appreciated by all during our Tahoe snowstorms.
