Highland Woods
The Highland Woods neighborhood of South Lake Tahoe is absolutely one of Tahoe’s best kept secrets. Bordered by Barton Meadows and Lake Tahoe Blvd, Highland Woods is one of the few neighborhoods in Tahoe with underground utilities, no power lines. One other unique advantage to Highland Woods is it is a nice level neighborhood, great for walking and biking, no hills to climb. Homes in this neighborhood range from traditional Tahoe chalets to beautiful, contemporary homes backing to the meadow. As in many South Lake Tahoe neighborhoods residents of Highland Woods are a mix of permanent, full time owners, vacation home owners and a few vacation rentals. Highland Woods is locally known as one of most well maintained areas in town, owners here love their neighborhood and it shows in the care of the homes.
If you live in Highland Woods you are in easy walking or driving distance to all of South Lake Tahoe’s amenities: skiing at Heavenly, hitting the beach, fine restaurants including the new Tahoe Grill and local’s favorite Off the Hook. Centrally located but yet with a peaceful and secluded feel this is a great place to purchase your piece of Tahoe. There are access point through out the neighborhood to walk the woods, you can walk or cross country ski to the Lake, watch the eagles soar and the coyotes playing. Parts of the meadow are a bird watching preserve, protected areas during the spring nesting period.
One corner of the Highland Woods neighborhood is known as the Highland Woods PUD (planned unit development), this is a small cluster of chalets that share common green space and parking areas. The homes are individually owned but are governed by the HOA. The HOA also takes care of snow removal and garbage a nice feature if you are the occasional vacation home visitor.
